The Trouble with Tigerfish

I missed a screaming take. One moment the bait was on the bottom in nearly 20 feet of water, the next a fish was 3 feet in the air, clacking its jaws as it threw the hook – before I had even reacted. The general tigerfish rule was proving true: that only a fraction of fish that take are hooked, and not all of them are landed – thanks to their bony mouths and habit of getting airborne. How to improve the odds?
