The Tackle

I prefer to tackle up for the biggest fish I’m likely to encounter, rather than the average run. So in this case I was using 150-pound braid, with a few yards of 100-pound monofilament on the end to resist the abrasion of the scattered rocks on the bottom. The problem with this approach is that the weakest link is often the angler. In this case my back and arms were seizing up before I felt the fish start to come off the bottom.
