Catch and Release

Bubbles of air from the expanding swim bladder confirmed that it was coming up. Finally it surfaced some way off, the unmistakable sleek gray and white shape. We boated it by grabbing the pectoral fins, then gunned the boat to the adjacent beach where we could revive it. Piraiba fight so determinedly that they need supporting in the water for a considerable time before they are released. And perhaps more than any other fish they leave the angler also needing time for physical recovery.
