Bald Eagle

Allow me to introduce Myself: I'm the Bald Eagle!

Where You'll Most Likely Find Me: Lakes and trees in states like Florida, South Carolina, Texas, California, Washington, and Alaska. You can also find us in flying high in Canada.

Another Place You'll Find Me: On the back of the U.S. dollar and the quarter.

What I Like to Eat: Fish, small and large birds and rodents. We also love to feast on carrion (dead animal flesh).

Betcha Didn't Know This About Me: We are proud to be the symbol of the United States of America. However, your founding father Benjamin Franklin, wasn't keen on us being the symbol, preferring the turkey over us. Franklin said, "I wish the eagle had not been chosen as the representative of this country. He is a bird of bad moral character; he does not get his living honestly."

Size: We can grow up to three feet in height with a wing span that ranges from 72 to 90 inches. The female eagles are larger than the males.

Dirty Hunters: We have no shame when it comes to hunting for food. We can see fish in lakes and streams from hundreds of feet away and will swoop down to grab them just below the surface. We also have no qualms stealing fish from other birds.

Eagle Eye:Our eyes are almost as large as a human's eye, but our vision is four times better than a human with perfect vision. We have two centers of focus that permit us to see in front of us and to the side of us at the same time.

White on White: We don't develop our trademark white head, neck and tail until the age four or five.
