The green turtle gets its name from the color of the fat underneath its shell. It is also one of the largest sea turtle species! Unlike other sea turtles, this species is purely an herbivore. They can be found in tropical and subtropical waters.

According to the WWF, "green turtles are threatened by overharvesting of their eggs, hunting of adults, being caught in fishing gear and loss of nesting beach sites."
