This is the rarest and smallest dolphin species in the world. The subspecies of Hector's dolphin, maui's dolphin, has a population of only 55. Both are only found in the waters near New Zealand. Hector's dolphin is known for its distinctive round fins.

The biggest threat to this species is bycatch, or getting caught in fishing nets.
